Romano Reveals United Are “Advancing In Talks” To Sign Up 24 Year Old Defender

Manchester United are getting closer and closer to agreeing a contract extension with fullback Diogo Dalot, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist claims the Red Devils are “advancing in talks” with an agreement over a new deal expected to be confirmed in the near future:

Manager Erik ten Hag is a big fan of Dalot, with the Dutchman having started the defender 37 times in all competitions this season.

The 24-year-old does, however, only have twelve months left on his contract and he could potentially leave on a free transfer next year if his future isn’t resolved soon.

Competition for places at right back

Dalot has actually been left on the bench in recent matches, with ten Hag having favoured Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the wins over Wolves and Bournemouth.

The 25-year-old appears to have changed the opinion of his manager, so Dalot may have a battle on his hands getting his place back in the team.

There have also been reports that United have held meetings with the agent of Bayer Leverkusen fullback Jeremie Frimpong in recent months so there could be even more competition if the Netherlands international makes the switch to Old Trafford this summer.
