Romano Makes Transfer Claim About “Amazing Talent” Who United Reportedly Watched Play Against Arsenal Recently

Manchester United are not pursuing a deal for Sporting Lisbon centre-back Goncalo Inacio at the moment, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Reports in the Portuguese media over the weekend had suggested that United scouts were sent to watch the defender play against Arsenal last Thursday and they came away from the game very impressed. However, Romano says no bid from the Red Devils is imminent:

“I’ve been asked a few times now about Manchester United following Goncalo Inacio. Many, many clubs have followed him since a long time. He’s an amazing talent, I think he’s one of the best left-footed young centre backs in Europe. He would be a top signing for any club but I’m not aware of anything concrete for now.”

United are expected to be in the market for a new centre-half this summer. It is believed that captain Harry Maguire could be allowed to leave the club and a replacement will be required.

As Romano points out, though, Inacio is left-footed so he would be a direct rival for Lisandro Martinez if he were to make the switch to Old Trafford at the end of the season.

Even so, the Portuguese Under 21 international is a very promising young player so it is not surprising that United are keeping a close eye on him.
