Romano Drops January Transfer Claim About 100M Rated Ecuadorian Star Who United “Asked About” Last Month

Brighton won’t put Moises Caicedo up for sale during the January transfer window, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist has confirmed that Manchester United did make an enquiry for the Ecuadorian international before they recruited Casemiro but, despite rumours of interest from other clubs, he says the Red Devils were the only team to make a formal approach:

“There’s been a lot of speculation about Moises Caicedo and top Premier League clubs, with talk of further interest in January, so I thought I’d give my understanding of his situation. The only club interested this summer was Manchester United. They asked about Caicedo as [a] potential option before signing Casemiro, who was the real and main priority. I’m not sure there will be a price tag for the player in January, as Brighton called him untouchable for the whole month of August.”

Before he was appointed Chelsea manager, Graham Potter claimed that only a bid in excess of £100m would make Brighton consider selling Caicedo.

Considering there have been reports that Potter would like to bring the 20-year-old with him to Stamford Bridge, those words could come back to haunt him. Liverpool and Arsenal have also been mentioned as potential destinations but Romano suggests that United were his main suitors.

With Casemiro having been snapped up, it seems very likely that their interest has cooled in Caicedo, especially if Brighton hand the player a new contract as some reports suggest.
