Manchester United are one of the teams interested in signing RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian reporter, however, says that a transfer this month is very unlikely as any team would have to pay a “crazy” figure, well in excess of the player’s summer release clause, in order to secure his signature:
Man Utd are one of the clubs interested in Upamecano. But Leipzig would sell him in January only if they receive a ‘crazy’ bid. More than release clause value, to be clear

The buyout fee is reportedly €42m or £38m, so any offer from United would likely need to be above £50m to sign Upamecano before the January transfer window closes.
There would be some merit in paying a premium now rather than waiting until the summer. Teams such as Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, as well as the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid, are thought to be interested in the 22-year-old.
All these clubs could trigger his release clause at the end of the season, so United may consider jumping the queue if they really want to snap up Upamecano.
