Rival star claims Lukaku will be a success at Manchester United

Manchester United have made big movements in the transfer window once again this summer, with their biggest move being the capture of Romelu Lukaku from Everton. The Belgian ace has certainly wasted no time making an impression with the Red Devils after netting two goals in pre-season, including in a clash against Manchester City in North America.

Lukaku arrives at Manchester United with big shoes to fill following the departures of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney this summer but it seems confidence will certainly not be an issue for the former Chelsea man, with international colleague Vincent Kompany stating Lukaku places himself amongst esteemed company.

According to the Manchester City captain, Lukaku believes he’s in the same bracket as global superstars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, with the defender adding that it’s this sort of confidence that makes him believe his compatriot will be a success at Old Trafford. Speaking recently, he said:

“I want him to do well – except for in a few games this season. As long as we’re ahead of them, I’m happy for him to do really well.”

“The one thing you get when you have Romelu is an incredible drive to improve and to score goals. It’s something really unique that I’ve been able to observe over the years because he’s been a player from Anderlecht, which is the same youth system where I come from and I’ve really followed his progress.”

“The key thing with him is he believes he’s the best player in the world. It doesn’t matter whether he is or he isn’t, that’s the way he approaches every single training session, that’s the way he approaches every game.”

“If you think you are the best you can never really be satisfied with yourself and therefore you always keep working harder and harder and that’s what he does. It’s a special player to have, but there will be a lot of competition this season.”

So if you believe in what Vincent Kompany says (and he is a pretty stand up guy), then Lukaku is the real deal and could be a massive signing for City’s neighbours.

A crucial aspect for Lukaku is that it really does seem to be confidence rather than arrogance, which means he should slot nicely into Manchester United’s line and have the chance to propel himself to the highest levels- as it’s clear he’s not quite on Messi or Ronaldo levels just yet.
