Rio Ferdinand Names The Four United Players Who Could Leave Old Trafford This Summer

Ex-Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes that there will be, at least, four departures from the club in the coming weeks.

Scott McTominay has been linked with moves to Newcastle and West Ham, and Ferdinand thinks the Scottish international may look to leave the Red Devils in order to get more first-team football:

“Scott McTominay hasn’t played much football, not as much as he would like. If I was him as a young player I would probably start assessing that situation and start having real hard conversations with the club [asking] do you see me as part of it or not? If I’m that far down the pecking order I would start looking and I don’t think he will have a problem finding a club, he is a very good footballer and he can add a lot of value.”

Manager Erik ten Hag has already suggested that he won’t stand in the way of captain Harry Maguire leaving and Ferdinand says the England international will probably be seeking a move elsewhere:

“Harry Maguire has to look at a new option for himself. Unless he says he’s happy to be third or fourth choice.”

Ferdinand also claimed that both Anthony Elanga and Anthony Martial could be set to depart if United receive good enough offers for them.

Ten Hag is keen on revamping United’s squad

Multiple reports have suggested that United may only have around £100m to spend due to Financial Fairplay rules so player sales will be crucial in topping up the transfer budget.

Maguire and McTominay, in particular, could bring in decent sums, while Elanga is believed to have plenty of clubs pursuing his signature.

However, it may be more difficult to get a good fee for Martial due to his poor injury record, while offloading fringe players, like Eric Bailly, Alex Telles, Donny van de Beek and Brandon Williams, could prove to be a challenge.
