REPORT: United ‘Will Miss Out’ On Erling Haaland Due To Rival Club’s £25.7m Agreement

Manchester United are set to lose the race for Red Bull Salzburg striker Erling Haaland, according to the Mirror. The newspaper claims the Red Devils “will miss out” on the Norwegian because of Salzburg’s contractual agreement with RB Leipzig.

Both teams are owned by Red Bull, with Leipzig effectively having the first option on any player that Salzburg signs. Not only that, there is a £25.7m release clause in place that only applies if the German side makes the offer.

It means the likeliest outcome at the moment is that Haaland will leave for Leipzig at the end of the season, rather than joining United in January as some have been speculating.

Whether Red Bull Salzburg’s mind could be changed by offering a sizeable fee, it remains to be seen. It has been reported that the Austrian club have already set an £85m asking price for the 19-year-old, and if the Red Devils offer close to that amount, it would certainly be a more attractive proposition than moving him to Leipzig.
