REPORT: United ‘Ready’ To Hijack Arsenal’s Move To Sign 7 Cap International Defender

Manchester United are “ready” to challenge Arsenal for the signature of Ajax’s Lisandro Martinez, according to The Mirror.

The English tabloid claims that the Gunners have already had a £25m bid rejected for the centre-back, but United could now make their own attempt to secure the player’s services.

Erik ten Hag’s side were pursuing Martinez’s teammate, Jurrien Timber, but the Dutch defender has had cold feet about the move after getting worried that he could miss out on the World Cup if he isn’t playing regularly for his club.

Martinez will also likely be at the tournament with Argentina, having been capped seven times by his country. He is left-footed, and capable of playing as both a centre-half and left-back.

With ten Hag also knowing the 24-year-old well after working with him for three years at Ajax, United will be confident that they can beat Arsenal in the race to sign him.
