REPORT: United Keen On Replacing Pogba With Uruguayan Who Has A £454m Release Clause

Manchester United are interested in signing Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde, according to OK Diario. The Spanish website claims the Red Devils would like the Uruguayan international to replace Paul Pogba at the end of the season.

Pogba is heading into the final year of his contract at Old Trafford, although the club do have the option of extending his stay for a further year. Even so, Ok Diario claim the Frenchman will almost certainly be sold with Valverde a key target.

However, United face a major obstacle in signing the 21-year-old. Real boss Zinedine Zidane sees the midfielder as an indispensable first-team player, and with the Uruguayan having a €500m (£454m) release clause, a transfer looks highly unlikely at this stage.

Valverde has made 32 appearances in all competitions for the Spanish club this campaign, scoring two goals and providing four assists. He generally plays as a deep-lying playmaker, more in the mould of Luka Modric than someone like Pogba.
