REPORT: United Battling Chelsea To Sign ‘Bargain’ Italian International For Just 25.5M

Manchester United are interested in signing Roma attacking midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo, according to Il Messaggero.

The Italian newspaper claims the Red Devils are “testing the grounds” to see whether Roma would be prepared to sell the 21-year-old for a “bargain price” this summer.

Zaniolo is due to return from his second serious knee injury in the space of fifteen months and United are believed to be prepared to take a gamble on the Italian international by offering €30m (£25.5m).

Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in the midfielder, but it does seem as though Roma will look to turn down all offers for a player they have invested a lot of time in rehabilitating.

Zaniolo also has a contract that extends to 2024 so the Giallorossi are under no pressure to sell and, with United already having the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Donny van de Beek available to them, it isn’t an area of the pitch they really need to strengthen.
