Manchester United and Erik Ten Hag are planning to transfer captain Harry Maguire to another club in the summer – however, he is reportedly ‘not keen’ on the idea of a move away from Old Trafford [via TalkSPORT].

Maguire is hopeful he will be given the chance to fight for his place at United – but Ten Hag has shown reluctance towards that idea and would rather simply move him on.

Currently out of favour with the Red Devils, Maguire is now their fourth-choice centre-back, behind Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof.

Over the last few months, Aston Villa and PSG have registered an interest in Maguire’s services – but it is unclear if either team will pursue a move for the player in the summer transfer window.

The 30-year-old is a boyhood Sheffield United fan and has played for the Blades in the past – but it is unlikely that the South Yorkshire outfit will be able to afford the wages that he will command.

Born in Sheffield in 1993, Maguire joined the youth academy of Sheffield United in 2011. He quickly established himself as a commanding defender for the Blades, putting his massive frame and excellent defensive positioning to good use.

He made the jump to fellow Yorkshire club, Hull City, in 2014. During his time with the Tigers, he also enjoyed a brief loan spell at Wigan Athletic. He made 54 appearances for Hull, scoring two goals, before moving to Leicester City in 2017.

At Leicester, he began to attract attention from major Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, who signed him for a bumper fee of around £80 million – making him the most expensive defender ever at the time.

His time at United has been mixed at best. His limitations as a footballer have been on show far too many times – a clean break may be the best outcome for all parties.
