REPORT: Manchester United Interested In Former Celtic Defender For Transfer

Manchester United are reportedly interested in attacking wing-back Jeremie Frimpong with a potential transfer in mind, according to Dutch sports media outlet SportBILD.

According to SportBILD, a deal for the former Manchester City and Celtic is in its ‘advanced’ stages and that a move to Manchester United ‘beckons’.

An offensive-minded fullback by trade, Frimpong possesses electric pace – he is at his best when running down the line and whipping in crosses.

While he can often be found lacking defensively, his attacking output more than makes up for his fragility when on the backfoot. At just 22 years of age, he also has plenty of room to develop and grow.

Who else is interested in Jeremie Frimpong besides Manchester United?

As things stand, United appear to be the only club in pursuit of Jeremie Frimpong. While certain outlets have reported that ‘several’ clubs are interested in bringing him on board, United are the only team to be explicitly named.

As such, the Red Devils shouldn’t have too much trouble in bringing Frimpong to Old Trafford if they choose to do so. It would, however, pose questions towards some of United’s current talents. With Diogo Dalot set to sign a new contract with the club, it could signal the departure of former Crystal Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Jeremie Frimpong career summary

Frimpong’s youth career began at Manchester United’s bitter rivals, Manchester City – he joined the Sky Blues’ academy in 2010, when he was just ten years old.

After failing to make a senior appearance for the Citizens, he was snapped up by Celtic in 2019. He went on to make 36 appearances for the Bhoys, scoring three goals – his impressive showings in the Scottish Premiership earned him a move to Bayer Leverkusen in 2021 for an undisclosed fee.

He has yet to make a senior appearance for a national team, but he is eligible to play for The Netherlands (who he represented at youth level), Ghana and England.
