REPORT: Goalkeeper ‘Very Close’ To Signing For Manchester United

Manchester United are reportedly interested in Brentford goalkeeper David Raya with a potential transfer in mind, according to Football365.

The Red Devils are in need of a goalkeeper – David De Gea, for all his talents, has made too many mistakes over the past few years. Additionally, his distribution (both long and short) is insufficient for what is required in the modern game.

As such, it makes sense for United to seek out a ‘keeper in the transfer window. This season, there have been few shot-stoppers in the world better than David Raya – he has made more saves than any other goalkeeper in the Premier League this campaign (152 in total).

Who else, besides Manchester United, is interested in David Raya?

Manchester United are not the only ones who have been linked with a transfer for David Raya. Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also believed to be in the race, according to reports.

Both clubs are in need of a ‘keeper – Spurs’ Hugo Lloris has been poor this campaign, as has backup shot-stopper Fraser Forster. Raya would be a great replacement for the Tottenham captain – if they can beat Chelsea and United to the punch.

Meanwhile, Edouard Mendy has been injured for much of the season and looks set to depart Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window. While Kepa Arrizabalaga is improving, he is too inconsistent to be Chelsea’s permanent number one.

David Raya career summary

Raya’s youth career began at Catalonian outfit Cornellà – in 2012, he was scouted and snapped up by Blackburn Rovers. He spent two years in their academy before signing his first professional contract with the club in 2014.

In 2019, he was signed by Brentford for reported fee of around £3 million. Since then, he has gone on to help guide the Bees to the Premier League – now, he stands as one of the world’s leading shot-stoppers.
