Report Details United And Chelsea’s Stance On Signing Lionel Messi After Both Clubs Are Contacted

Manchester United and Chelsea will not enter the battle to sign Barcelona icon Lionel Messi this summer, according to The Sun.

The newspaper claims “feelers” were sent out to both clubs from the Argentinian international’s entourage, with the player’s father actively looking to find his son a new team if he doesn’t remain at the Camp Nou.

However, United won’t be involved as they are focused on signing younger players, while the Sun claim Chelsea have “shown little interest” in snapping up Messi either.

The 33-year-old is reportedly asking for a £25m a season, twelve-month contract with an optional extension for a further year and those figures mean only Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain can afford him.

Messi could yet still stay at Barca but there have been reports that the La Liga side’s president Joan Laporta may sacrifice him in order to land Erling Haaland. We shall see how this transfer story develops over the summer.
