Villarreal are open to discussing a “player plus cash offer” if Manchester United make an approach for centre-back Pau Torres, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The local newspaper claims the Spaniard is keen on moving to the Red Devils but his €60m (£52m) release clause could prove problematic. A compromise could, therefore, be reached to allow the defender to make the switch to Old Trafford in the summer.
Torres has been linked with a number of Premier League teams over the past year, with both Chelsea and Arsenal having reportedly scouted the 24-year-old. However, it appears United are the team in pole position currently.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made signing a new centre-back partner for Harry Maguire a priority and it seems Torres will be one of the main candidates.
The fact that the Spanish international is left-footed may be one of the key factors in going after the defender, with United’s current centre-half options all being predominantly right-sided.
