REPORT: Chelsea Attempt To Beat United In Race To Sign £70m Rated Serie A Defender

Chelsea will rival Manchester United for Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar, according to reports in the UK.

The Slovakian international has been a long-term target for the Red Devils but their Premier League rivals are also said to be keen on doing a deal for the centre-back.

The Blues missed out on Juventus defender Daniele Rugani in the summer, and with Gary Cahill expected to leave Stamford Bridge on loan in the January transfer window, Maurizio Sarri will need to strengthen his options at the back.

Both Chelsea and United will have to pay top dollar if they want Skriniar, however, with Inter set to demand £70m for the 23-year-old.

The Slovakian has been in talks to renew his contract with the Nerazzurri, but it is believed that the centre-half is growing frustrated by the lack of progress in negotiations.

That could provide an opening for both Premier League clubs if they want to make a bid for Skriniar in January. Jose Mourinho has been keen on United signing a new centre-back since the summer, and he will be hoping that his old club Chelsea don’t get in the way of his plans.
