Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara, according to Sport (via Sport Witness).

The Catalan based publication claim the Spanish international is poised to leave Germany and “sign for Manchester United.”

However, it remains to be seen how reliable this report is. Earlier this month, the same newspaper were saying Thiago was on the verge of joining Liverpool for a fee in the region of €35m (£32m).

It is well known that the 29-year-old is looking to leave Bayern this summer, with the player having one year left on his contract at the Allianz Arena.

A move to United would, though, be a surprise as the Red Devils are believed to be focused on signing a right-winger and an attacking midfielder.

Thiago’s availability for such a low price, though, may have persuaded the Manchester club into entering the race for the Spaniard but we shall have to wait and see.
