Redknapp fires warning to Man United regarding Romelu Lukaku

Manchester United spent heavily this summer to bring Romelu Lukaku in to Old Trafford and the Belgian striker is expected to be the main man for Jose Mourinho’s side this summer, following years of success at Everton.

The 24-year-old has already established himself as one of the finest strikers within the Premier League and a move to Manchester United should see him kick-on to the next level, especially with the Red Devils’ return to the Champions League.

Lukaku is yet to be tested at that level and needs to find regular consistency in the Premier League too if he is to become a star, which has led former Liverpool man Jamie Redknapp to fire a warning to the Red Devils.

Speaking to The Daily Mail, Redknapp stated he believes Lukaku can be a real asset to the side- but only if he’s brave enough.

“With this battering ram up front, United will be very direct this year. Jose Mourinho will be looking to Lukaku to be his Didier Drogba. There are times when the Belgian plays like a raging bull — but has appeared timid and disinterested at times.”

“Now he must ditch his reputation as a flat-track bully and terrorise every centre back in the League. Lukaku is good friends with Paul Pogba and if they replicate that relationship on the pitch, they can be magnificent.”

Lukaku certainly needs to improve in his performances against the top-teams and his performance against Real Madrid in this week’s European Super Cup was poor, despite the forward finding the back of the net.

The Belgian striker missed a sitter and also ruined a glorious chance for Manchester United when Ander Herrera nicked the ball of Toni Kroos, only for Lukaku to run onto the ball from an offside position rather than allowing the Spaniard to continue his run.

Those sort of poor decisions need to be wiped from his game if he is to succeed at Manchester United and Mourinho needs to work with the striker to improve his all-around performances, otherwise he may not live-up to the sort of level that fans expect.
