Real Madrid will not let Raphael Varane leave if Manchester United don’t offer more than €45m (£38.5m) for the 28-year-old, according to reports in the Spanish media.

At the moment, the Red Devils are thought to be refusing to up their bid. They are hoping Real will reduce their demands due to the fact that they don’t want to lose Varane on a free transfer next summer when his contract expires.

It is believed that talks between Varane and Real are still taking place over a new deal but, while the La Liga side are only keen to pay €7m a year, the defender wants €12m, which is what new signing David Alaba is on.

There has been some suggestions that a 12-month extension could be considered to give the two parties more time to agree a compromise but there is currently a stalemate.

Real believe Varane is worth at least €50m (£43m) and if United are not willing to up their offer, they could be in danger of missing out on the player. Numerous reports over recent months claim that the likes Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool are also keeping tabs on the centre-back’s situation.
