Rashford Secures The Win Again

Manchester United go into the international break knowing that the Champions League is just 1 point away. Considering City’s performance against the Devils, it is very likely that they will lose more points along the way. Not sure if they are already focusing on the game against PSG or if Guardiola being appointed as manager so early had a negative impact on the club, but one thing is certain: the Citizens are on a downward spiral. With games against Chelsea, Arsenal and Southampton still ahead, City are bound to lose more points.

Even with all that, Manchester United’s success should not be attributed to any negative circumstances surrounding Etihad Stadium. It was a well-planned game in which De Gea, Smalling, Rojo, Darmian and Carrick dedicated themselves 100%. All the other players were focused as well but these guys won the game. Actually Rashford won the game and these guys kept the result intact. Maybe just having the game against City to focus on right now helped. There was no Europa League, no FA Cup, just the Premier League.

It was nice to watch a precise United side with three brilliant strikers up ahead. Lingard on the right, Martial on the left and Rashford down the middle – what a trio. If they grow together and continue down the same path, they will dominate the years to come in terms of Premier League and even Continental attacking lines. Unfortunately, they seem to be missing the guy with the pass. Mata served Rashford pretty well but otherwise failed to create any goal situations. Martial and Lingard on the other hand and even Schneiderlin were great.

There were some worries with Darmian and Rashford towards the end with both accusing muscle pain. The Italian was substituted but Manchester United’s striker finished the game on the pitch. It’s great that Rashford is getting a couple of days of relaxation as it might have been too soon for him to play 2 games each week. With Rooney’s return not yet set, LVG needs to take good care of the player who is now the first choice up front. Unfortunately, every game left of this season is important so we might end up seeing Rashford struggling to keep up. Hopefully his young physique will handle the stress.
