Manchester United will make an attempt to sign Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane in the summer, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The Catalan based publication reports that the France international is “on the list” of summer transfer targets, with a source “close” to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer telling the newspaper that the centre-back has been monitored by the club in the past.
Varane’s contract expires in 2022 and, with talks over an extension having stalled in recent months, reports suggest that Real are seriously considering offloading the 27-year-old for as little as €50m (£44m).
Chelsea, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain have been mentioned as possible rivals to United in the race to secure the Frenchman’s signature so competition is fierce.
Whether United’s long-standing interest in Varane will aid them in the battle for the centre-back, it remains to be seen, but it seems the Red Devils are ready to make their move for the player.
