Ranking The Wonderkid Wingers Signed By Former Boss At Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, despite his legendary status at the club, had a mixed managerial stint at Manchester United.

While his style of football was sometimes maligned, as were his team selections and unwillingness to criticise the United hierarchy, Solskjaer took them to a Europa League Final and some other almost moments but a trophy eluded him. That said he did make some great transfer signings during his time at the club

Among them were four number sevens – all of them are talented wingers in their own right. In this list, we’ll be ranking each of them from least to most impressive.

The number seven shirt is iconic at Manchester United – it has been worn by legends such as George Best and Cristiano Ronaldo. Can the players on this list hold a candle to these two?

Amad Diallo

Diallo was signed by Solskjaer at the end of the window in the summer of 2021 when the Jadon Sancho will he won’t he leave Dortmund results in the Englishman staying in Germany for another season before signing in the summer of 2022.

The Ivory Coast international stayed with Atalanta until January 2022 when his work permit and other details were in place only joining the club for the second part of the season whre he made 3 appearances.

Amad then spent time on loan with Rangers in the SPL scoring 3 goals in 10 games before joining Sunderland on loan for the 2022-23 season where he is enjoying his football under Tony Mowbray and has notched 9 goals in 29 games.

At the age of 20 there is still a lot of development to come in the young Ivorian’s game and we will see how he stands up against the other players in this gallery in the year’s to come.

Jadon Sancho

Jadon Sancho’s position at the bottom of this list doesn’t really tell the whole story. He has underwhelmed so far at Old Trafford – but it’s not necessarily his fault. Sancho began his career at Watford and Manchester City, before making the jump to Borussia Dortmund.

Sancho’s biggest strengths – his technical dribbling and creative guile – aren’t put to their best use in the Premier League, as he is given little time to dwell on the ball.

United’s current counterattacking style of play suits explosive, dynamic wingers – something that Sancho is not. Regardless, he is best utilised in European games, where the tempo is somewhat lower.

Facundo Pellestri

21-year-old Facundo Pellestri is beginning to mature into a fantastic young winger – it’s a shame he doesn’t get more of a chance to showcase his talents in the first team.

An adaptable wide man, Pellestri is comfortable on either flank – he can sprint down the line to deliver a cross, or he can cut inside to fire a shot on goal. Recommended to Ole by former United striker Diego Forlan who had a superb career for Atletico Madrid and a decent spell with United, Pellestri could be best of them all.

He received his first senior start for the club recently, in United’s Europa League tie against Real Betis. The Uruguayan didn’t even look remotely out of place – how far can he go?

Alejandro Garnacho

The youngest player on the list, Alejandro Garnacho is one of the Premier League’s most exciting young talents – the sky really is the limit for this young man.

With brilliant dribbling, a determined attitude and an inherent desire to score goals, Garnacho is fantastic to watch whenever he’s on the ball.

Sometimes, it is difficult to believe that Garnacho is only 18 years of age. He is arguably the best young player in the league – although he has competition in the form of Liverpool’s Stefan Bajcetic and Lewis Hall at Chelsea.

With teams such as Everton, West Ham United and Newcastle all thought to be in the hunt for a new winger, will Manchester United be able to hold on to these three fantastic wonderkids? Time will tell – but with stars such as Antony at the club, it could be more difficult than United fans would hope.
