Pundits Backs United To Make Move For Controversial Ex Chelsea Star

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara believes Manchester United should consider signing ex-Chelsea striker Diego Costa.

The Spanish international had his contract terminated with Atletico Madrid earlier this month and he is available on a free transfer. O’Hara thinks Anthony Martial’s poor form and Edinson Cavani‘s inability to play every game means there would be opportunities for Costa to start games:

“Martial, for me, just isn’t a No 9. He’s not clinical enough, he doesn’t bring other players into the game, and he just looks miserable when he plays football. I don’t understand it because it’s the best place to be on the football pitch.”

“I know someone said about Man City signing Diego Costa, but if Cavani can’t play every week and you have to look after his legs a bit – who I think is the most important player for them at the moment, Cavani, because he’s so good up front and he brings the whole team into the game with the way he plays – why don’t they sign Diego Costa?”

United are currently not looking to sign another forward, and there are no indications that the club are even considering a move for Costa at the moment, so fans would probably be wise to dismiss O’Hara’s comments.

Goalscoring hasn’t really been an issue for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side this season, with the Red Devils having scored 37 in 20 league matches; that is the second-best record in the whole Premier League.

Costa’s goals also dried up when he moved back to Spain. Since the beginning of 2018, he has managed just 19 goals in 108 appearances.
