Promising United Youngster Set For Exit

Manchester United have received a £9.7m bid from Real Sociedad for Adnan Januzaj, according to Sky sources. United were reported to value Januzaj at around £12m, but the Spanish club’s offer might just be too good to refuse as Jose Mourinho is very keen to offload the 22 year-old.

Januzaj exploded onto the footballing scene with Manchester United under former manager David Moyes. The Belgian netted two debut goals against Sunderland and was tipped for the top. Many compared the winger to Ryan Giggs, others touted him as the ‘next Ronaldo’. Despite being given Giggs’ famous no.11 shirt the following season, Januzaj’s performances just didn’t cut it in the way fans and staff at Old Trafford would have hoped. The youngster was loaned out by Louis van Gaal to Borussia Dortmund in an attempt to provide much-needed game time, but this loan was cut short by the German side who seemed to have even less of a place in the side for Januzaj as United.

Jose Mourinho gave Januzaj the opportunity to rekindle his form with the man who helped him spark it in the first place, with a loan move to Sunderland managed by David Moyes. However, as Sunderland were relegated to the Championship and finished bottom of the table, Januzaj offered nothing but frustration in the 18 Premier League starts he made, with fans deeming the winger ‘lazy’.

It was only a couple of years ago when Adnan Januzaj was rumoured to be a target of PSG, who were ready to bid an exceptional £40m for his signature. His proposed move shows just how far Januzaj has fallen in his career, and proves once again that it is very easy for younger players to stop with the hard work once they make it ‘too soon’.

With Januzaj posed to leave the club, it might be worth United including some sort of buy-back clause with the sale – we all know how handy they can become!
