There is a lot of uncertainty over when the season will be able to get underway once again as the global health crisis continues to unfold.

The Premier League have declared their intention to finish the campaign but after stating that the season has been suspended “indefinitely,” they have left it open as to when or if the campaign will be completed.

Suggestions that football could get underway in June are based on assumptions on the situation improving in the coming months, and there is a clamour to finish the final nine fixtures behind closed doors.

There are, though, major complications to even playing matches without fans, and there could be a situation where it is impossible to complete the remaining games.

In that scenario, the question will have to be asked whether the Premier League should award final league positions based on where teams are in the table now or wipe it from the record.
