Pogba Out, Matic In: Manchester United’s Predicted XI To Face Leicester

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s confirmation this morning that Paul Pogba won’t be fit to face Leicester has dealt the Red Devils a serious setback heading into tomorrow’s game.

With Luke Shaw, Anthony Martial, Diogo Dalot and Eric Bailly also missing, it leaves the United boss with a threadbare squad, which could be even thinner if Aaron Wan-Bissaka (back) and Jesse Lingard (illness) don’t make it through late fitness tests.

The back four could, therefore, undergo a change or two. As things stand, Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Ashley Young are favourites to start. However, if the £50m summer signing is unavailable, Young may have to shift over to right-back with Marcos Rojo coming in on the left.

In midfield, it’s likely to be a straight fight between Nemanja Matic and Fred to replace Pogba. With the Serbian having been a regular on the bench at the start of the campaign, and the Brazilian not having even made a matchday squad, the former is the favourite to get the nod.

There is a case to be made for Angel Gomes to be given a chance, and move Andreas Pereira deeper, but it would be a big call from Solskjaer to put the 19-year-old in from the start.

Upfront, it’s likely to be the same front three that played against Southampton, with Marcus Rashford leading the line, Daniel James on the left, and Pereira on the right. Lingard could come back in if he is declared fit, but his poor form may play against him.

Manchester United’s Predicted XI To Face Leicester:

De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Young, Matic, Mata, McTominay, Pereira, Rashford, James
