Perisic may be the answer to Man United’s issues but don’t forget Martial

Manchester United have already made waves in the summer transfer window by splashing the cash to bring Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku in from Benfica and Everton respectively but Jose Mourinho’s summer business is far from over.

The Red Devils are keen on securing further improvements as they look to improve upon a disappointing Premier League campaign last term, which saw Manchester United finish sixth and a staggering 24 points behind champions Chelsea.

Mourinho’s side did enjoy success in the League Cup and Europa League but it’s clear improvements are needed if the Red Devils are to stand competitive in their return to the Champions League and the Portuguese boss has his sights set on another top-class additions.

Ivan Perisic is the man Manchester United want to strengthen their wide areas with before the close of the transfer window next month and the Croatian would certainly be a top-class addition, providing the ability out-wide that could see new star-striker Lukaku have the ball laid on a plate for him on a regular basis.

Inter Milan are prepared to sell for the right price and the fact that United can offer Champions League football to Perisic will be decisive, as he’s been unable to feature in Europe’s elite competition since joining the Italian giants.

Now 28, Perisic is in the prime years of his career and his addition would significantly improve Manchester United’s ranks. However, it’s crucial that Jose Mourinho does not shut the door on young Anthony Martial- as the 21-year-old Frenchman is a star for the future.

Martial impressed in his debut season in English football under the tenure of Louis Van Gaal but struggled to establish himself in Mourinho’s new-look side last season. The former Monaco man faces a similar battle this term but United’s involvement in the Champions League means rotation may be necessary.

Perisic would likely come in to be the first-choice for Manchester United on the wings, playing on the left-hand side, but Martial is another option who can step-up when necessary- and could even play centrally instead of Lukaku, should the opportunity arise.

Mourinho isn’t renowned for his development of young players but it’s something that needs to change if he is to succeed at Old Trafford, as the Red Devils have Marcus Rashford and Martial to think about- as well as the abundance of developing players behind the scenes.
