Paul Scholes Explains Why United “Probably” Should Have Won Against Chelsea

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes says his former club “probably” should have secured the three points versus Chelsea on Saturday.

The Red Devils needed a last-gasp equaliser from Casemiro to grab a draw at Stamford Bridge but Scholes claims their strong first-half performance means they should have already been out of sight:

“They were good for half a game, they were really good and probably deserved to win the game. You think of Chelsea being at home, did they do enough to win the game? I really don’t think they did.”

It’s a fair point made by Scholes. United carved Chelsea open on a number of occasions before halftime, and they had two clear-cut openings when both Marcus Rashford and Antony had real sighters on goal.

You do feel that the two players could have done better with their chances. Rashford’s poor first touch allowed Kepa to close down the angle for his shot, while Antony never looked that convincing shooting on his weaker right foot.

As it was, manager Erik ten Hag would have been happy to get something out of the game. His side take on Sheriff next up in the Europa League on Thursday.
