Paul Merson Names The Striker That United Should Be Going After Ahead Of Haaland

Paul Merson believes Tottenham striker Harry Kane should be Manchester United’s number one target to strengthen up front in the summer.

The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, along with Chelsea, but Merson thinks that Kane has to be prioritised ahead of the Norwegian international:

“If they went and got Haaland it would take them to another level. But do they go for Harry Kane instead? Kane isn’t going to Chelsea. No chance. But he might go to United. And that would leave Chelsea to go for Haaland.”

Kane would obviously be a fantastic signing but his transfer value could be even higher than Haaland’s. Reports suggest that Dortmund may sell a number of key players if they don’t secure a Champions League place in the summer so the 20-year-old is likely to be the cheaper option.

You also need to factor in that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has worked with Haaland before at Molde, and the forward has greater scope for improvement in the future.

Kane turns 28 in July and you would have to think that, along with his price tag, that would put United off from making a move for the England captain.
