Manchester United could be in with a chance of signing Kylian Mbappe if the Frenchman is keen on turning around the club’s fortunes, according to Paul Merson.
The team’s stature in world football has diminished somewhat in recent years but Merson says that, as long as Mbappe is aware of United’s history, there is a possibility that he’d consider a move to Old Trafford:
“It depends if he knows his football and if he knows the history, There’s no better place to be in Man United turn around. If he goes, they have a chance to turn it around. If you get him, he really does make things happen. He’s not only a superstar commercially but he’s an unbelievable football player as well. He’s the only chance France have got of winning the World Cup and they are a footballing nation. That tells you how good Mbappe is.”
Reports earlier this week suggested that Mbappe is being seriously considered as a potential replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo. It has been claimed that the Frenchman isn’t completely happy at PSG and, with United’s resources, they do have the means financially to pull off such a transfer.
However, as Merson points out, a lot depends on whether Mbappe sees United as a sleeping giant who can be revitalised if he joins. It seems like a long shot at the moment but we shall see how the situation unfolds in the coming months.
