Pau Torres’s ‘Preference’ Revealed Amid Transfer Links To United And Chelsea

Villarreal defender Pau Torres’s “preference” would be to sign for either Barcelona or Real Madrid, according to The Athletic.

Manchester United are said to be interested in the Spaniard and, while the website claim that a move to Old Trafford would “appeal” to the 24-year-old, it is not believed to be his preferred destination.

Chelsea are reportedly considering a move for Torres as well, which could complicate things further. At this stage, though, no club has made an official approach for the centre-back.

Reports suggest that the player does have a €65m (£56m) release clause but the Spanish international is in no rush to leave. Torres recently said that he would be open to staying with the Yellow Submarine:

“Right now I have a contract with Villarreal. We’ve won a European trophy. We’ve shown we can compete against any opponent. Next year we have the Champions League ahead of us, and that’s what I’m focused on. Those rumours mean that you’re doing a good job. I’m calm.”

United are believed to be prioritising a move for Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane anyway, but his price tag may prove prohibitive especially if they go through with moves for both Jadon Sancho and Kieran Trippier as well.
