Ornstein Reveals United Lead 10 Clubs In Race To Sign The Next Van Dijk

The Athletic journalist David Ornstein has revealed that Manchester United are one of ten clubs keeping tabs on Sporting Braga centre-back David Carmo.

The Portuguese defender has been compared to a young Virgil van Dijk, due to his commanding presence in the air and his ability with the ball at his feet. He is also left-footed which is something manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been searching for in order to provide some balance in the centre of defence.

United are said to have already made contact with Carmo’s representatives, although it is thought that one of the other teams involved is another ‘big six’ Premier League club. However, it is not known whether it is Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham or Manchester City.

The 21-year-old has very limited first-team experience, having only made his senior debut against Porto back in January. Since then he has become a firm fixture in Braga’s starting line up, having made eight appearances in all competitions so far this season.
