Manchester United have decided against stepping up their interest in RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecanco, according to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein.
The France international will be available for €42m (£38m) next summer, when a release clause comes into effect, but the Red Devils have now left the path clear for Bayern Munich to sign the defender:

Upamecano has been linked with a whole host of teams, including Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea, over the past year but it now appears that the 22-year-old could well stay in Germany rather than move to the Premier League.
United have struggled defensively this season, having shipped six at home against Tottenham back in October but, despite the availability of one of the most sought after centre-halves in Europe, it appears their priorities lie elsewhere.
There has been speculation that the Red Devils would prefer a left-footed player, which may explain links to the likes of Villarreal’s Pau Torres and Sporting Braga’s David Carmo but, even so, snubbing a chance to sign Upamecano for such a low price may prove to be a mistake.
