Ornstein Reveals 58.6M Uruguayan Ace Could Move Teams ‘In The Coming Weeks’ With United And Chelsea Leading Contenders

Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are the three “front-runners” for Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, according to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein.

The very reliable former BBC journalist has confirmed that United have earmarked Nunez as a key summer signing, but getting a new manager in place is crucial for the deal to go ahead.

Benfica are reportedly ready to sell Nunez for €70m (£58.6m) and the Portuguese club would like a move to be agreed “in the coming weeks” as they are keen to have a replacement for the Uruguayan brought in early during the summer transfer window.

With the 22-year-old’s move to Old Trafford dependent on the Red Devils getting a new permanent manager, all eyes are on whether Erik ten Hag will accept the job.

Ornstein reports that the Ajax head coach has yet to make a decision on whether to join United. Even if he does give his approval, there are still other issues to resolve, including agreeing to the Dutchman’s list of demands, as well as sorting compensation out with Ajax.
