One United Star Makes It Into Garth Crooks’ ‘Team Of The Week’

BBC pundit Garth Crooks has named Manchester United midfielder Fred in his ‘team of the week’ following his performance against Crystal Palace yesterday.

The Brazilian scored the winner in Ralf Rangnick’s first match in charge of the Red Devils and Crooks singled out the 28-year-old for praise:

“Fred, who is renowned for his energy and his interventions, scored a goal that Ronaldo would have enjoyed. The Brazilian looked more surprised than anyone on the pitch.”

Fred was really on his game against the Eagles. Undoubtedly, he was trying to impress his new manager with his all-action display, but it could be argued that he was also deployed in a role that best suited him.

Not only was the midfielder asked to press, but he had midfielders in close proximity to pass to, allowing him to break up play and give possession to more creative players.

Saying that, though, Fred has actually contributed to three goals himself over the last two games, scoring the winner versus Palace as well as two assists against Arsenal.

Manchester City’s Ederson, Bernardo Silva & Raheem Sterling, Liverpool pair Mo Salah & Divock Origi, Newcastle’s Jamaal Lascelles & Callum Wilson, Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa, West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen and Tottenham’s Davinson Sanchez made up the rest of Crooks’s team.
