“Nothing Is Impossible…” Club President Drops Transfer Hint As United And Arsenal Vie To Secure 80M January Deal

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has suggested that Joao Felix could yet stay at the Wanda Metropolitano this month.

Both Manchester United and Arsenal are thought to be interested in taking the Portuguese international on loan but Cerezo has played down the forward’s potential exit:

“Nothing is impossible in life, but the normal thing is that Joao Felix stays at Atletico Madrid.”

Felix is known to be unhappy at Atletico, having seen his game time reduced under manager Diego Simeone. His manager is said to be urging the club to get the player’s situation resolved as soon as possible.

The main stumbling block to any deal is the finances involved. Atletico were originally seeking a €15m (£13m) loan fee but that has reportedly been reduced to £9.5m.

It is also believed that the La Liga club are holding out for an obligation to buy at the end of the season, with the total cost of the deal likely to be in excess of £80m.

With United looking at cheaper options such as Besiktas’ Wout Weghorst, an attempt to snap up Felix doesn’t seem to be on the cards at the moment.
