Nicholas Expects Four United Stars To Leave Old Trafford This Summer

TV pundit Charlie Nicholas is predicting that at least four players will leave Manchester United at the end of the season.

The former Arsenal and Celtic player expects there to be a significant overhaul of the playing squad at Old Trafford with the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Eric Bailly and Marcos Rojo all leaving:

“I don’t think Romelu Lukaku will be there next season and I don’t see futures for Eric Bailly, Marcos Rojo and maybe Alexis Sanchez.”

“I think they need three key defenders, maybe one midfielder and then probably a replacement for Sanchez, who they might think about moving on from.”

Rojo’s departure seems the likeliest. The Argentine has been ravaged with injury over the past few seasons and will have two years remaining on his contract in the summer.

Lukaku’s future very much depends on the playing time he gets under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian has favoured Marcus Rashford in the central striker role ahead of the Belgian.

Sanchez has certainly failed to live up to expectations since his move from Arsenal in January last year, but his wages could make him difficult to offload. Bailly, meanwhile, would probably only be moved on if United land one of their top centre-back targets.
