Neville Names Five Players Who Must Improve If United Are To Turn Their Season Around

Gary Neville

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville believes there are at least five players who must up their game in the closing weeks of the season.

The Red Devils were abject in the 4-0 defeat to Everton on Sunday, and the TV pundit believes the likes of Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, David De Gea, Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial must improve their form:

“Marcus Rashford, this couple of weeks, has been nowhere near [his best]. I went to both Barcelona games. Marcus looks off it at the moment. Whether he’s carrying an injury. Something’s not right, or the season has caught up with him. Romelu Lukaku – he doesn’t turn up in a big game. That’s been levelled at him for a number of years now.”

“Paul Pogba looks like he’s back to the Paul Pogba that was playing under Jose Mourinho, even though he’s been outstanding for the past three months. And Martial he’s just come back from injury, but he looks like he’s back in that sort of ambling mood again.”

“De Gea looks nothing like he was, he looks distracted. You’ve got contract talks that are going on between five or six players, which is distracting at this time.”

The devastating loss at Goodison Park puts Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League next season in jeopardy.

Chelsea’s draw against Burnley last night does help United’s cause, as they are only three points behind the top four with a game in hand. However, Arsenal have played the same number of games and lie two points ahead in fifth.

While the Gunners play Wolves tomorrow night, Solskjaer’s side face Manchester City at Old Trafford which means they need some sort of result from the derby to stay in the race.
