Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic believes that the Red Devils now have the best squad in the Premier League after recruiting a number of high-profile players over the summer.
Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo all started in the 4-1 victory over Newcastle yesterday, and Matic feels that, for the first time since he arrived at Old Trafford, United are well covered in all areas:
“It is the first time since I’ve been here that we have the best squad [in the Premier League]. We have a perfect balance in the team now. In every position, we have great competition. We probably do have the best team.”
It’s a bold statement from Matic. The likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool may dispute his claim but the depth available to manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is quite remarkable.
A forward line that consists of Ronaldo, Sancho, Edinson Cavani, Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard has to be the strongest that United have had over the last decade.
With defenders such as Varane and Harry Maguire, plus two top-class goalkeepers in David De Gea and Dean Henderson, there is a lot of quality in other positions as well.
