Mourinho’s transfer masterstroke at Old Trafford

When Manchester United announced that Zlatan Ibrahimovic was returning to Old Trafford this season, many supporters questioned the logic behind the decision – especially given the club had splashed out millions to bring Romelu Lukaku to spearhead the attack.

I think this season has already proven that Jose was right to bring in Zlatan as a fall back – given Rom’s inability to perform in the big matches this season.

I know it’s harsh to call Lukaku a flat-track bully, but that is exactly what he is. If you look at a player like Harry Kane then the outright difference is that he scores against all the big teams at crucial times – as well as the lesser likes.

Basically the Tottenham striker always delivers, something that Ibrahimovic did week-in week-out last season.

Romelu has a role to play of course, given that two thirds of a Premier League season is made up of such opposition; however, with the fine margins within the Premier and Champions League we do need to have the players that are able to deliver on the big stage and the big moments, something Mourinho has insured himself with by bringing in Zlatan for the remaining months of the campaign.

I truly believe it has been a transfer masterstroke by Jose, as we navigate our way through this season.

Not only will the presence of Zlatan will act as a source of motivation for Lukaku and will probably make him a better player in time, but the Special One has that world class finisher that he knows will deliver against the bigger boys within the country and of course in Europe.

Romelu may feel at times in the coming months that his nose has been put out of joint when he finds himself rotated with Zlatan; however, he needs to realize that the Swede spearheading our attack in these big games ensures that we have a greater chance of success at Old Trafford this season.
