Mourinho Wants United To Free Up Transfer Funds With Two Serie A Defenders Being Targeted

Manchester United are weighing up moves for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly and Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic, according to reports in the English media.

Jose Mourinho is said to be particularly keen on Koulibaly but he will have to persuade the United board into freeing up funds to sign the Senegalese international.

However, it is believed the 27-year-old is not the United manager’s only target. Milenkovic is also said to be on the club’s radar.

Mourinho was pictured at Serbia’s game against Montenegro earlier this month, with many assuming he was scouting Lazio playmaker Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Yet, it appears he could have also been watching Milenkovic who has impressed both for club and country over the last 12 months. The Serbian defender is just 21 years of age though, and there is apparently some concern about whether the centre-back would cope with the pressures of playing for United.

The high profile signings of young defenders like Vincent Lindelof and Eric Bailly have yet to bear fruit, and it’s likely Mourinho is keen on bringing in more experience at the back.
