Mourinho Wants To Sign England International To Strengthen United’s Defence

Manchester United could make a move for Chelsea defender Gary Cahill in the January transfer window, according to reports in the English media.

Manager Jose Mourinho is keen to strengthen his defence and he may turn to a former player of his in order to reinforce what has become a problem area of the pitch.

The United boss is reportedly not convinced by his four current centre-backs, Chris Smalling, Vincent Lindelof, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones, and a move a Cahill is said to be on the cards.

The 32-year-old is no longer a first-team regular at Stamford Bridge with Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz being the favoured centre-half pairing under manager Maurizio Sarri.

Cahill has already stated that he would consider leaving Chelsea for first-team football in January if his situation doesn’t improve. The England international played a key role for Mourinho when the Blues won the Premier League title in 2015.
