Mourinho To Reunite With Real Madrid Defender

Up until now, Manchester United have made some pretty impressive acquisitions. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Eric Baily and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have been added to the lot in order to fill in the gaps. It looks like Mourinho is keen on closing the transfer circle with one more center back who would indeed bring even more quality to a quite complete lot. According to the Daily Express, Raphael Varane is on the verge of leaving Real Madrid to be reunited with his former boss who is willing to give the Frenchman a lot more time on the pitch than he is currently getting. There is a lot at stake for Varane who could lose contact with France’s national team and might lose momentum when it comes to his career which at some point (under Mourinho) looked like it was about to skyrocket. Currently, Mourinho has 7 center-backs under his management with names like McNair and Blackett being rather linked to a loan deal rather than to a spot in the starting eleven. That leaves 5 defenders out of which at least one could be on the transfer list. Marcos Rojo was rumored to be out the door after LVG’s departure so that leaves 4. Varane could definitely make his way into the starting eleven where he would have to compete with Smalling, Blind, Phil Jones and Eric Bailly. Knowing Mourinho, there’s a pretty big chance that even Manchester’s newest arrival may take time to get used to the EPL..

Manchester United have been keen on signing Varane even before Mourinho took over. This might be the perfect time to make a move now that the Special One is here. The downside is that the French defender still has 4 years left out of contract meaning that he will have to really push for an exit. He is valued at £25.50m but could end up costing Manchester United double that amount because of the length of his contract with Real Madrid. Even so he would be worth the effort as he is one of the most promising defenders out there.
