Mourinho outlines Fred’s role at Manchester United ahead of the new season

Jose Mourinho has outlined the role he believes summer signing Fred will play at Old Trafford next season.

The Brazilian joined United in a £52 million deal from Shakhtar Donetsk, however has yet to appear for his new club having only just joined up with them in pre-season following the World Cup.

With United already having a plethora of midfield talent, Fred’s position at Old Trafford was questioned by some upon him joining the club, however Mourinho has revealed how he believes the 25-year-old will be a big player for his side next term.


People like Nemanja Matic, Marouane Fellaini, Paul Pogba, even Ander Herrera, are physical and strong midfielders, said Mourinho.

“We think that players like Fred, and Andreas Pereira, are more technical, passing and playing in short spaces and maybe connecting with the attacking players.”

He concluded: “We thought Fred could be an important player for us but let’s wait.”
