Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has made yet another sly comment, seemingly about Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, over the legacy he will leave at Arsenal.

Mourinho has had many clashes with Wenger in the past, with the pair making verbal digs to one another for years now. Wenger has struggled against Mourinho sides in the past, having only beaten the Portuguese competitively once – last May.

The Manchester United manager has spoken out about his policy of leaving clubs in a good position for the long term, sighting Real Madrid as an example. But as Wenger enters his 22 season of managing Arsenal, there is a sense that the team is in bad shape at the moment, and his departure could leave the Gunners in long term ruins.

“I prepare clubs for success. I think I prepare clubs in a way where, when I leave, the new manager arrives at a top club. And that is not short-term even if you leave,” Mourinho told the Times.

“If you’re in a club one or two years – or any job – if you leave a structure to be even more successful without you than with you, that’s not short-term. That’s long-term.”

Mourinho then went on to suggest that managers who stay in the same job for the long haul could be harmful for the club, comments that are seemingly aimed at Arsene Wenger.

“Short-term can be the guy that is at one club 10 to 20 years and when you leave the club, it’s ready for failure,” he added.

Mourinho has started his career at Manchester United by winning two trophies, he will of course want to win the Premier League this season if all goes well, and there are reports that he could be in line for a contract extension at the club.
