Mourinho fears for United in the Champions League draw

Manchester United successfully earned their place in the Champions League last 16 draw on Tuesday, topping their group thanks to an almost perfect record despite a late qualification scare.

It means the Red Devils will be seeded for the next round, so technically speaking they should have an easier draw than if they were to have finished second.

However, as the group of unseeded teams show, there are no easy games in the Champions League at this stage in the competition.

United can’t draw another team from England, meaning they avoid Chelsea and Liverpool. But they do face potential fixtures against the Italian, Spanish and German champions.

Basel, Sevilla, Shakhtar Donetsk and Porto would be United’s favourable draws, but with Bayern Munich, Juventus and Real Madrid also posing as possible opponents, Jose Mourinho is fearing the worst.

“I am not the luckiest guy with draws, it is better I shut up and I forget it because we only play in February,” the Portuguese said via Metro.

“I think it doesn’t matter the team we get in the draw. That team will not be jumping with happiness to play against us. I don’t think so.”

Jose Mourinho might not fancy his luck in the draw itself, but if you fancy your chances of success in the Champions League why not head over to 888sport for the latest Champions League betting odds.

With the draw being made on Monday in Nyon, it will be interesting to see which sides the five English teams have the pleasure of facing.

Manchester United will always be a force to be reckoned with, so although there are more favourable draws to be had, it has to be said that no team will want to face Mourinho’s men either.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic agrees, saying he believes United can win it all this season. As one of the Champions League’s most decorated stars despite never winning the tournament, this season may be his last chance of glory in the competition.
