Michael Owen Predicts The Result As Manchester United Face Newcastle

Ex-Manchester United striker Michael Owen is expecting his former club to record a comfortable victory when they play Newcastle tomorrow afternoon.

The BT Sport pundit has his doubts over whether Cristiano Ronaldo will start the match on his return to Old Trafford but he still feels the home side should come out on top:

“The Cristiano Ronaldo show rolls into Manchester once again as the prodigal son looks set to make his second debut for United. Will he start? Well, that remains to be seen. United scraped a win away to Wolves two weeks ago as they continued to break records on the road. Back at Old Trafford, they’ll want to make it a fortress this season. They’ll have to if they’re serious about challenging for the title.”

“For Newcastle, I expect the Magpies to finish around mid-table. Unfortunately, going to places like this and getting a result is probably just out of reach for them at the minute, and with such a buzz about Old Trafford just now, I can only see one winner.”

Owen has gone for a 2-0 win for the home side, which seems like a very fair prediction. It could be argued that he’s being rather conservative with the scoreline considering what we know about the two sides.

United thrashed Leeds in their only other home match so far this campaign, while Newcastle have conceded eight goals in their first three league matches.

If Ronaldo does start on the bench, it would not be surprising if the 36-year-old came on as a substitute and sealed victory with a goal on his second debut for the Manchester club.
