Merson Slams Solskjaer For Dropping United Star Who Is “Playing The Best Football Of His Career”

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has criticised Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for dropping Luke Shaw for the game against Sheffield United on Wednesday night.

The Manchester United manager made a number of changes to his starting eleven before the surprise 2-1 defeat to the Blades and Merson thinks the decision to leave out Shaw was emblematic of the coach’s poor decision-making:

“What’s Luke Shaw need a rest for? He’s playing the best football of his career, absolutely flying. Don’t tell me he’s tired. I heard a United fan on the radio saying the team he put out should still have been good enough to win. If it was good enough, why isn’t it playing every week!? It was madness.”

Shaw will almost certainly be back in the starting lineup when the Red Devils face Arsenal in their next league fixture this evening.

While Alex Telles did provide the assist for Harry Maguire’s equaliser during the week, he did not look comfortable defensively and Merson is right to point out that Shaw needs to be starting every game considering his excellent recent form.

Rotating his side was a gamble that didn’t pay off for Solskjaer against the Blades, and fans will be hoping they can get back to winning ways at the Emirates tonight.
