TV pundit Paul Merson has lavished praise on Manchester United forward Anthony Martial following his performance against Norwich City at the weekend.

The Frenchman got on the scoresheet for the second consecutive game at Carrow Road, after scoring a penalty against Partizan Belgrade last week, and Merson believes he has the ability to tear apart opponents:

“Anthony Martial is a top player, he’s better than a lot of the players they’ve got. If you’re the manager, you’re always going to hope a player like him is coming back into the team. On his day, he can rip anybody apart.”

Martial’s link-up play with teammate Marcus Rashford against the Canaries played a key role in United’s improvement in the final third of the pitch.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side had not scored more than one goal in any match since the opening day rout of Chelsea until Sunday, and it’s no coincidence that Martial’s return from injury to start in the league led to them scoring three versus Norwich.

Of course, it does also show a lack of depth in United’s frontline that they are so reliant on Martial being available, but in any case, fans will be delighted to see the 23-year-old back in action.
