Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson is expecting Manchester United to finish second in the Premier League this season.
The Red Devils are currently trailing league leaders Manchester City by ten points, heading into the last 13 fixtures, but they are just six points ahead of fifth, and Merson has pointed out that things could quickly go wrong if they don’t pick up results in their next three games.
“United have three consecutive away games against Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Manchester City and a bad run, coupled with some good results for the teams around them and things can change. They can change quickly in this league at the moment. That being said, if United beat Chelsea you’d have to think Thomas Tuchel’s side won’t catch them. United have the platform and they should secure a top-four finish.”
While the Chelsea and Manchester City matches will certainly be a test of character, you would expect United to get a result against Palace, considering their excellent away record this campaign.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side have not lost on the road and this should give them confidence heading into a run of matches away from Old Trafford.
Based on this season’s displays, you would expect the Red Devils to finish comfortably in the top four and supporters will be content with finishing second if Merson’s prediction proves to be accurate.
